Morgen Swavely

Morgen Swavely graduated from NC State in May 2013, with a double major in International Studies and Political Science, as well as the Global Perspectives Certificate.

Q: What are you doing now?
A: I still live in Raleigh. I work several different part time jobs while applying to more relevant jobs in my field.

Q: How did the GPC impacted your time at NC State?
A: The GPC impacted my time at State because it allowed me to meet people from literally all over the world. I worked with SKEMA for two semesters, so I met many wonderful, fun French students. I was involved in clubs that had members from the United States as well as international students. It allowed me to learn about different cultures and mannerisms, etc. I have no doubt that the GPC impacted me in a positive way because I have a better understanding of the world and people around me.

Q: Where did you do you international experience, and how did that impact you?
A: I went to St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. I originally went to be able to do an independent language study with a professor, but that fell through, unfortunately. But I still had an incredible experience. I learned about Canadian history, language dialects, food, the culture in general, and explored the city. I really loved my time there and want desperately to go back and visit one day. It definitely helped me learn about and love our neighbors to the north.

Q: How do you feel the GPC has impacted you post-grad life?
A: I know that having the GPC on my resume is a plus. More importantly, I have used what I learned while obtaining my certificate for a variety of things since I graduated, and it has made me a better individual. I have a greater appreciation for the people and cultures around me.

Q: What advice would you give to students currently pursuing or considering the GPC?
A: If you are considering pursuing the GPC, JUST DO IT!! I promise, you will not regret it. It is a worthwhile pursuit during your time at State. It will get you involved on campus, and will allow you to meet people you never would have met any other way. I urge you to do this; I know it has impacted me so much, and I hope that everyone who pursues it has just the same experience as me – if not better!
